5 Casual Hats to Complete Your Fit

Hats have been a staple accessory in the fashion realm for about as long as fashion has existed. Although originally made for protection from the sun or warmth, hats have evolved to fit all kinds of different styles and purposes, not to mention fixing bad hair days. There are so many types of hats out there that it can be hard to keep track, so here are some more common (and less common) casual hats you can throw on before class that can really be the cherry on top of your outfit.

Dad Hats

When you hear the word “hat,” you probably think of the dad hat. This type of hat has existed for over a century, but has had an even bigger resurgence in the last few years with the growing popularity of “dad style.” The dad hat is the perfect casual hat and can go with practically any casual outfit. You can likely find a dad hat in any color imaginable, so find one that complements your outfit. A neutral-colored hat will go with most outfits, or you can get a more colorful hat to match a brighter and louder outfit. One possible outfit is a light-colored dad hat, a white graphic tee and some khaki pants.

Beanies

A beanie is one of the best options for both keeping your head warm and staying stylish. Beanies also have some versatility in terms of how you cuff them. You can go for two cuffs to get that fisherman beanie look that sits above your ears, or you can have one cuff for a more standard look that will also keep your ears warm. Beanies also come in virtually every color imaginable, and can pair well with most casual looks. Darker-colored beanies are great for achieving that edgier, more “thuggish” look, but if that isn’t your vibe then you can go for a lighter-colored beanie to match your outfit, or a brighter color to be a statement piece.

Bucket Hats

Bucket hats are another great casual hat and can also tend to give a laid-back and chill vibe, whether on a night out or fishing with your dad. You can wear plain-colored bucket hats to complement a more minimalist outfit, or you can wear something more vibrant. Bucket hats commonly come in many crazy patterns, designs, and even different materials, such as this rabbit fur Kangol Furgora bucket hat. You can wear a patterned bucket hat with a more solid colored outfit to make the hat really pop, or you can pair it with a graphic t-shirt for a look that is sure to turn heads.

Military-Style Berets

Military-style berets are perfect for achieving a more serious and (you guessed it) military look due to the very structured shape of the hat along with the fact that it provides little to no practical purpose. A good way to style these is to include other elements from military style into your look, such as combat boots, military colors (variants of black, green, tan, and blue), or a structured jacket with pockets. If you want to buy one straight from the source, get a Rothco beret online or go to a military surplus store. If you are really desperate, you can even join the military. You won’t.

Cadet Hat

The Cadet hat is another hat taken from military style, but is less structured and formal-looking than the beret. The Cadet Hat is essentially a more cylindrical dad hat, and can work in many of the same outfits. However, it works best in military-inspired outfits, partially because you will have trouble finding them in non-military colors. The different structure will make it stand out a bit more from a dad hat, so it is good for mixing up your outfits a little.

There are tons of other hats that weren’t mentioned, but these are a few I think are great options for improving your fits just a little further. If you want to try on some hats yourself instead of buying online, I would recommend checking out Berkeley Hats on Telegraph, which has a huge variety in hat styles to choose from.
