The Mullet

If the last few months could not get more bizarre, the infamous mullet has come back. At first, I fully hoped this trend would go away. I associated it with the “Achy Breaky Heart” and fried chicken, which I can only handle in certain moods. However, the haircut slowly took mainstream culture by storm, and now it's everywhere. Anyone and everyone has been chopping off their hair and serving looks. Throwing it way back to the 70s, the journey of this hairstyle has twists and turns. David Bowie wore the mullet and in this case, it was a more androgynous look. No one knew what to call this new style but one thing was for sure: it's business in the front, party in the back. The mullet was the perfect revamp for men who had been growing their hair out in the 60s. Slowly it seeped into different parts of mainstream culture from singers to actors. Just as quickly as the mullet became popular ~she passed away.~ Mullets were a big no-no. It was seen as cringey, for the lack of a better word. And then 2020 had another trick up its sleeve. When nothing else seemed to shock us, the mullet made the biggest comeback imaginable. Being at home without hairdressers, we took haircuts into our own hands, and voila. My favorite part of this comeback, though, is women taking on the hairstyle as famously seen on the one and only Miley Cyrus. It's so fun and flirty. I feel like getting a mullet, putting on some roller skates, and forgetting reality. With that, I will leave you with a playlist to channel your inner mullet.
